Films · Directors · Genres

An explorable network of 500 films linked to the 285 people who directed them and the 17 genres they belong to — 3,298 links in total. Built as an Obsidian vault of interlinked Markdown notes, and exported here as a standalone interactive graph.

Genres act as high-degree attractors that hold the layout together; directors are many and low-degree, so they form the visible clusters. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, click a node for its details and to highlight its connections, or use the search box to jump straight to one.

Every note is also published as a page under /notes — the same wikilinks, plus backlinks, full-text search and a per-note local graph, rendered by Quartz.

How it was built

A Python pipeline fetches film metadata, caches every raw API response to disk so builds are reproducible, models the result as a networkx.DiGraph of three node types and two edge types, then renders it twice: once as a folder of Markdown notes that link to each other with [[wikilinks]], and once as the interactive graph above. A validation pass reads the notes back off disk and fails the build if any wikilink does not resolve.

Prefer the real thing? Download the vault, open the folder in Obsidian and press Ctrl/Cmd+G. Colour groups are pre-configured, so the graph view is legible on first open.
